Patrick Luig

Sport Scientist, VBG German Social Accident Insurance for the Administrative Sector and Headcoach of the U23 team of Bergischer HC, Germany

Patrick Luig (D), PhD, a German sports scientist and handball coach. His main research area is the field of sports injury prevention with specific regard to handball. He has written his doctoral thesis on video-analyses of match injuries in German professional men’s handball. Since 2014 he has been working as sports consultant for the VBG, the German Social Accident Insurance for the Administrative Sector, which also cares for the professional sports sector. The focus of his work area lies on providing advice to professional sports clubs and sports associations with view to injury prevention and health promotion. Beforehand (2008 - 2013) Patrick Luig was research associate in the field of sports injury research at the Department for Sports Medicine and Sports Nutrition, Ruhr University Bochum. Since 2009 he is lecturer for the German Handball Association (DHB) in the framework of the A-license education. As head coach he is currently in charge for the U23 team of the Bergischer HC. He will talk about the “Injury profile in German Elite Men’s Handball”.
